Establishing the School
The plan of establishing a full time Islamic school at Des Moines was initiated in 2003 by a group of parents. This was followed by a survey, which received a very favorable response from the community. The School board of directors worked towards the goal and The Islamic School of Des Moines was established as a not-for-profit organization in July 1st 2004 as a separate organization and entity that serves the whole community.
Friday, August 27th, 2004 Was the First day of school for the grades K-1st. Since then the school is growing and more grades were added.
2012 The School Purchased a bigger place that is suitable to conduct school activities and to accommodate the growing needs and 5th Grade was added. June 2012 our Academy moved to the new building and the 2012-2013 school year started at the new location. 2013 sixth grade was added. 2014 opened Middle school grades
Now; AlRazi Academy; The Islamic School of Des Moines is serving all school grades from Kindergarten to 8th grades.
Preschool and Child Care — An Important Part of Our History
In 2008, AlRazi Academy expanded its services by establishing Preschool and Child Care programs in response to the growing needs of families in our community. These programs were created to provide families with an affordable, convenient, safe, and nurturing environment while preparing young children for future academic success.
Over the years, AlRazi Academy proudly served children through early childhood programs that included infant care, toddler care, preschool, before- and after-school care, and summer programming. These programs played an important role in the Academy’s growth and in our service to families throughout the Greater Des Moines community.
Growing to Meet the Needs of Our Students
As AlRazi Academy continued to grow, enrollment in our elementary and middle school programs increased significantly, creating a need for additional classrooms and educational space.
To support this continued growth and make the best use of our campus, AlRazi Academy made the decision to discontinue its Child Care and Preschool programs and dedicate the available space to the expansion of our school-age educational programs.
We are grateful to the families, children, teachers, and staff who were part of our Preschool and Child Care programs throughout the years. Early childhood education remains an important chapter in AlRazi Academy’s history and contributed greatly to the development of the Academy and the community we serve.
AlRazi Academy Today
Today, AlRazi Academy continues its mission as an Islamic school committed to academic excellence, character development, and spiritual growth.
Kindergarten
Students must meet Iowa's kindergarten age requirements.
Elementary and Middle School
AlRazi Academy serves students from Kindergarten through 8th grade.
Additional and Enrichment Programs
The Academy provides educational and enrichment opportunities throughout the school year and may offer summer and other special programs based on availability.
Students receive instruction in core academic subjects, including English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, physical education, technology, and the arts. Our academic program is complemented by Arabic Language, Qur'an, and Islamic Studies.
Islamic values and character development are integrated throughout the students' educational experience, and Salah (prayer) is an important part of the school day.
Continuing Our Journey
From the establishment of the school in 2004, to the addition of Preschool and Child Care in 2008, to the continued expansion of our elementary and middle school programs, AlRazi Academy has evolved in response to the educational needs of our students and community.
Each stage of our history has helped shape who we are today. As the Academy continues to grow, we remain committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment where students can pursue excellence in education, strengthen their character and Islamic identity, and develop the knowledge and leadership skills necessary to serve humanity.

Philosophy
Our philosophy is to educate the whole child and to provide an environment, which promotes a feeling of self-worth. Early childhood is the time for education in living and approaching life with freedom to explore, ask questions and dream. Later education in intellectual skills will be fully effective only when a child has learned to live with themselves, their parents and friends.
